If you’ve recently been on the hunt for a new boiler you may have heard rumblings about the new government legislation Boiler Plus. Set to be introduced from 6th April 2018 by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), it aims to boost minimum performance standard for domestic gas boilers in England.
This is great news for consumers, but what exactly do you need to know about it? We’ve got the details…
An overview of the scheme
Under Boiler Plus, installers and manufacturers must comply with the following:
- All boilers must have a minimum ErP efficiency of 92%
- Time and temperature controls are required for all gas and oil boiler installations
- Combi boiler installations must also include one of the following:
- Weather compensation
- Load compensation
- Flue gas heat recovery system
- Smart control with automation and optimisation functions
Why is it being implemented?
The main reason for the introduction of Boiler Plus is to phase out inefficient boilers and reduce carbon emissions in line with targets set by the EU. It forms part of a wider plan known as the Government’s Clean Growth Strategy which aims to combat climate change and provide UK homes with more comfort and lower energy bills.
Do I have to do anything?
No! Boiler Plus will mostly affect installers and manufacturers. As a homeowner all you need to do is ensure that you choose a reliable and Gas Safe registered installer, and they will do the rest so that you can enjoy a warmer home and reduced energy bills under Boiler Plus.
