Helping UK homeowners save money on their heating

Nest Thermostat E Launched by Google

After much anticipation, the smart Nest Thermostat E has been released by Google as a simplified and cheaper alternative to their 3rd Generation thermostat.

The new smart-home product, priced at £199 on the Nest Store, is one of the cheaper thermostat options on the market and doesn’t even require an engineer to install.

Containing 4 sensors, the Thermostat E measures temperature, humidity, occupancy and the light of the room so that its LCD screen isn’t too bright. The occupancy sensor isn’t a familiar feature of thermostats but will prove useful as it can detect when nobody is home using infrared sensors and turn the heating down, helping to save you money on your energy bills.

In as little as a week after your Nest Thermostat E has been installed, it will have learnt the unique schedule of your home so that you don’t need to adjust the temperature yourself.

The Nest Thermostat E comes in 2 parts:

Heat Link E

A battery-powered heating controller that sits on the wall and connects to your heating system, replacing your current thermostat or heating controller.

Smart Thermostat

A small circular thermostat that displays the temperature and can be placed in any room of the house. It’s a smart piece of technology that even knows when the house is empty to prevent you from heating an empty home and wasting money.

Working together, these 2 devices will modulate the temperature so that your heating system runs as efficiently as possible.

What are the Benefits of the Nest Thermostat E?

The Nest Thermostat E is a highly intuitive device with a lot to offer you and your home:

  • Full control of the temperature of your home wherever you are
  • Help reduce energy bills
  • Simple installation that can be done yourself
  • Can be placed anywhere in your home

As well as all of this, you can pair the thermostat up with your Google Home device and simply ask your Google Assistant to adjust the temperature.

Can it Really be Installed Without an Engineer?

It’s completely safe and simple to replace your old thermostat with a Nest Thermostat E yourself with a bit of DIY and can be done in as little as 60 minutes.

Normally, for thermostat installations, access to the interior of the boiler would be required but that isn’t the case with Google’s latest smart thermostat, allowing you to quickly set yourself up straightaway.

Installation itself is simply a case of taking 2 wires from the existing thermostat and plugging them directly into the Heat Link E. Then the Nest Thermostat E can be placed wherever you like around the home, it just needs plugging in to any mains socket.

All of the tools you will need are included and the Nest app has a complete walkthrough from start to finish.

If you don’t feel safe installing the thermostat yourself, then you can arrange for it to be done by a professional engineer when ordering through the Nest Store.
