A newly launched website is on a mission to help struggling energy consumers check to see if they are eligible to install a new boiler for free as part of a Government boiler grants scheme.
The team behind Boiler Guide, the UK’s leading online resource of boiler and central heating installers has launched a new online portal in the shape of Boiler Grants. Consumers who visit the site just have to answer a few questions to find out if they meet the eligible criteria to install a free boiler as part of the Government’s new Energy Company Obligation.
People on a low income who claim specific qualifying benefits, or receive tax credits and allowances may be eligible to replace their old boiler for free. Which is great news for millions of fuel poor UK households who are struggling to keep their homes adequately heated due to escalating fuel bills. Replacing an old boiler with a modern energy efficient new boiler will help make homes more energy efficient and enable households to reduce their central heating bills by up to £300 annually.
Available in England, Scotland and Wales, potential recipients of an ECO grant will need to be a home owner or a tenant living in privately rented accommodation, earn £15,860 or less, have a boiler which is at least 10 years old and be in receipt of certain specific benefits including Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, Income Support, Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance and Income-Related Employment Support Allowance. Extra conditions will also apply.
Commenting on the launch of the Boiler Grants website founder David Holmes said: “Just this week energy regulator Ofgem has predicted that the country’s reliance on imported gas will continue to impact on our energy bills for the foreseeable future, which unfortunately means bills will keep on rising. So it’s down to us as responsible energy consumers to become more energy efficient if we want to keep our energy bills as low as possible.
“Key to doing that is to install an energy saving new boiler. What’s so great about Government boiler grants like the ECO grant, is that qualifying vulnerable households, particularly people on low incomes who are living in poorly heated homes, will have the opportunity to replace their ageing energy inefficient boiler with a modern energy saving new boiler for free.”

Hi Louise. It depends if you meet the criteria to be eligible for a 100% boiler grant. If you visit the Boiler Grants website, enter your post code and answer a few questions you’ll be able to determine if you are eligible. If you’re not eligible my advice would be to look into the Green Deal scheme. Hope that helps.
